This year is already shaping up to be a great year for travel. I just returned from a two-week circle drive through the South with my husband. Our travels included Atlanta, Jonesboro, Macon, Savannah, Hilton Head, Isle of Palms, and Charleston. The weather was cold, but clear while we were there and we were able to enjoy the best of the region during our visit. Of course, our trip also included several new and familiar regional Southern foods. We enjoyed delicious fried chicken, sweet tea, collard greens, succotash, cornbread, shrimp, grits, Carolina-style BBQ, and many, many other delectable treats. While eating our way around the South, we also managed to fit in several historical sites, popular tourist destinations, museums, and beaches. The trip covered more than 700 driving miles and offered big cities, small cities, Civil War history, Gone with the Wind interests, significant architecture, historical districts, plantations, forests, and seaside towns. The itinerary we planned worked out perfectly for us and we had a great time. The new year promises many more ideal trips to come. I am looking forward to sharing those with you throughout 2012. May your new year be filled with happiness, health, prosperity, and travel!
