                                              Getting there…

                                              By Boat:

Part of the great appeal of vacationing in Livingston, Guatemala, is that there are no roads to Livingston. The isolated town can only be reached by boat. You can hire a lancha (an open outboard motor boat) or a tour boat in Puerto Santo Tomás de Castilla. Ask your hotel if they provide transportation from your particular starting point or can recommend transportation providers.

                                              Don’t miss…

                                              Local Culture:

The music, food, and drink of the Garifuna people should be included as a part of your visit to Livingston. Whether you visit the fish market to see the sun-dried fish, try exotic fruits, or sample the local spirits, be sure to immerse yourself in the local traditions. Seek out live Garifuna music and learn to dance the punta while you are there.  The Garifuna are proud of their unique culture, customs, and traditions and will share those with visitors who show a true interest.

                                              The Rio Dulce River:

Rio Dulce, the “sweet river”, is a spectacular destination due to its lush tropical environment and stunning beauty. The river was once an attraction to the real pirates of the Caribbean who plied the waters of the local area. Today, visitors are awe-struck by the 300 foot high canyon walls and the “Indiana Jones” feeling of the area. A visit to a river restaurant/bar, industry (furniture building, tortilla making, general store, etc.), or home is an eye-opening experience for those accustomed to living with every modern luxury.  Traveling up the river is a step back in time and a not-to-be-missed opportunity when you are in the area.
