For Museum-Goers

The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art is located three blocks northeast of the Country Club Plaza shopping area and admission is free to the public every day. The museum offers tours of the collections, both indoors and outdoors, as well as audio tours and specialized tours for adults and children. There are two restaurants and a museum store in this appealing museum space. In mild weather, take a walk outside on the expansive grounds and manicured lawns to enjoy the fantastic outdoor sculptures.

Union Station is a restored 1914 train station that conveys the grandeur of train travel in days gone by. The building is now a destination spot by itself and worth a visit. Union Station includes several attractions, exhibits, events, shops, and dining. Some of the activities available in the historic station include:

For Walkers, Joggers, and Bikers

In pleasant weather, take a stroll, jog, or bike ride on the new Riverfront Heritage Trail. The trail connects several Kansas City communities and parks, with a portion of it following alongside the Missouri River. You can take a pleasant walk along the riverfront by accessing the trail near the River Market. The winding pathway offers interesting views at every turn and the natural setting along the banks of the river is pleasant.

For Foodies

The City Market has been around for more than 150 years and is open all year. In addition to a warm-weather farmer’s market and concert venue, the City Market is also a destination for year-round shopping, dining, events, and entertainment.  Tasty treats of all kinds can be purchased here and you can be certain foodies will find products of high quality. You can also visit the Steamboat Arabia museum featuring exhibits of the treasures recovered from the steamboat that plied the Missouri River.

The Country Club Plaza area is 15 blocks of shops including more than 150 stores. The Plaza area also offers multiple dining options for the rest and rejuvenation you need to shop—and not drop.
